Temporary dental prostheses

A temporary dental prosthesis, depending on the situation, replaces one or more teeth, most often after tooth extraction or the production of larger prosthetic works. It is worn in cases where the patient has to extract several remaining teeth and serves until the tissue heals and the jaw fully forms. It also serves to prevent neighboring teeth and teeth in the opposite jaw from being damaged by tooth loss. They are made of acrylic and designed to look like natural teeth. Temporary teeth, as patients often call them, are important for aesthetics, especially for front teeth, but also for protecting ground teeth until the end of therapy, i.e., until the placement of permanent crowns or bridges.

A temporary dental prosthesis is the simplest type of temporary dental restoration and fulfills basic tasks such as chewing, speaking, aesthetics, slowing bone resorption, and preventing temporomandibular joint disorders. It bridges the time until there is an opportunity to insert a permanent prosthesis, and thanks to it, a longer period of edentulousness, which patients often fear greatly, is avoided. They also help preserve the function of the temporomandibular joint, prevent the occurrence of pain and disorders due to impaired bite height, and protect the soft and bone tissue of edentulous parts. The temporary prosthesis is fixed to the remaining teeth in the jaw using flexible wire clasps.

A temporary dental prosthesis is made in our dental laboratory and the manufacturing process is relatively short. However, we emphasize that their purpose is not long-term rehabilitation, but they are considered in modern dentistry as a temporary, short-term solution until the production of the final work or until conditions are met for the production of better and higher quality prosthetic works. Therefore, it should be kept in mind that these teeth are not as strong or resistant as, for example, metal-ceramic, ceramic, or zirconia-ceramic. Therefore, while wearing them, it is necessary to chew food carefully because these teeth are fragile and the prosthesis is unstable. When choosing the therapy we will recommend to you, we always take into account high criteria of aesthetics and functionality, and we guarantee that the final production will be of high quality and long-lasting.
