Dental fillings

Every tooth defect can be treated, and if you lack dental tissue, the solution for you is dental fillings. Discover which ones are right for you.

Dental fillings replace missing dental tissue due to decay, wear, or tooth damage. The dentist and patient agree on the method of treatment. In case very little dental tissue remains, instead of a filling, it is recommended to make an appropriate dental coating that completely covers the tooth root. There are many factors that can affect the aesthetic appearance, durability, and lifespan of fillings.

How do we categorize and distinguish dental fillings?

There are direct and indirect dental fillings. The dentist completely makes direct dental fillings in the office, where all stages take place, from the removal of affected tissue, filling to final treatment. Different materials can be used to make direct fillings. Indirect dental fillings are fillings made in the dental laboratory after the impression of the prepared cavity is taken.

Inlay / Onlay / Overlay ceramic fillings

These 3 ceramic fillings differ in size, or the area they cover. The inlay is placed in the middle of the tooth and has no contact points when biting with teeth from the opposite jaw. The onlay is larger and comes into contact with the opposite tooth when biting. The overlay covers both the inner and outer parts of the tooth. They are a better solution than other fillings due to durability, and they look aesthetically better. The advantage of Inlay / Onlay / Overlay dental fillings is the fact that the tooth does not need to be ground much, so healthy dental tissue is preserved.

White fillings

Modern technological procedures for making white fillings allow the use of the principle of minimal tooth grinding and in this way, healthier dental mass is maintained. In addition to aesthetic but also health factors, this is a significant advantage of white fillings. The lifespan of teeth is also longer when a white filling is made compared to black. Thanks to minimal grinding, much more tooth mass is preserved than with the classic way of making an amalgam filling. Therefore, any further prosthetic care of the tooth is postponed.

Amalgam fillings

Silver or amalgam fillings contain 50 percent mercury, a compound that has been scientifically proven to be more toxic than lead, cadmium, or arsenic. Some health experts believe that mercury causes physical and psychological problems and directly affects most brain functions. Considering that they are not entirely safe, such fillings are not the best solution.
